About me

Katja Burkhardt is a german visual artist whose work is characterized by a deep engagement with nature, transformation, and inner insight. In her studio, she merges intuition with an analytical view of form, color, and symbolism. Her pieces often emerge in layers — a process that reveals both external and internal landscapes.

With a background rooted in observation and knowledge, her artistic practice follows a clear conviction: art as a means of understanding. She draws inspiration from everyday experiences, seasonal rhythms, and the interplay between chaos and order. Her preferred media range from acrylic and oil paint to collage and oil pastels — always in service of an expression that values depth over decoration.

Born in the city of Kassel – home to the renowned documenta exhibition – Katja Burkhardt was immersed in the world of contemporary art from an early age.

Today, she lives and works in the UNESCO biosphere reserve Rhön, where vast landscapes, shifting seasons, and rare species provide an inexhaustible source of inspiration.

With a background shaped by curiosity and reflection, her artistic process bridges observation and intuition. Her mixed media works explore the poetic interplay of abstraction and realism, often layered with personal symbolism, texture, and light. Nature, memory, and mythology merge in her paintings to form visual narratives that invite contemplation.

Burkhardt’s art is a quiet yet powerful search for meaning – an ongoing dialogue between inner stillness and outer expression.

On June 13th, 2025, Katja Burkhardt successfully graduated from the prestigious Mastery Program at the Milan Art Institute, completing 14 months of deep artistic training, personal transformation, and creative commitment.

Founded by Elli and John Milan and led by Dimitra Milan, the Mastery Program is renowned for combining classical and contemporary painting techniques in oil, acrylic, and mixed media with mindset coaching and individual mentoring. During this journey, Katja not only refined her technical skills but also developed a confident and authentic artistic voice.

Her graduation photo captures this moment of pride and elegance: dressed in a flowing evening gown, her long wavy hair framing a joyful smile, she holds her certificate—symbolizing the dedication, growth, and breakthroughs of her artistic path.

Today, Katja is part of the international Milan Art community and continues her journey as a fine artist with clarity, purpose, and creative freedom. Her work reflects not only strong craftsmanship but also a deep connection to nature, intuition, and the layered complexity of human expression.

"In my artistic practice, I seek to reveal the deeper patterns of life — the quiet wisdom of nature, the rhythms of change, and the insights hidden in everyday experiences. My work invites reflection and encourages others to connect with their own inner truth, embracing the beauty and meaning that unfold when we engage with life consciously and curiously."

My Process

I work across media, combining fluid, dry, and textured materials to make knowledge visible through structure, layering, and reduction. My preferred materials include:

  • Collage & mixed media (paper fragments, textures, layering techniques)

  • Water-based media (inks, watercolor, water-soluble graphite)

  • Acrylic systems (acrylic paint, markers, modeling paste, gels)

  • Drawing tools (graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, markers)

  • Oil-based media (oil paints, oil pastels, oil sticks)

  • wax-based media (sticks, pencils)

I work on canvas, wood, and paper, depending on the concept and material flow.
